How Can EMDR help Break Negative Patterns?
If you have ever tried unsuccessfully to change or break a negative pattern, it is probably rooted in some kind of trauma and/or negative experience. When we experience something deeply negative, we develop behaviors, ideas, and beliefs that help us cope with that experience. Often, those strategies are no longer serving us and its time to break an old pattern.
EMDR is the leading model of treating trauma. It can be done in-person, or during virtual therapy sessions. The therapist works with clients to develop a safe and trusting relationship and then together, the therapist and client work on reprocessing traumatic events or time periods. The goal is to help clients to experience their present-day lives in more fulfilling and less reactive ways.
